RAIDERS AND THEIR SUPPLY SHIPS ACROSS THE OCEANS

DURING WAR THE GERMAN KRIEGSMARINE USED SEVERAL MERCHANT SHIPS CONVERTED INTO ARMED RAIDERS WITH THE PURPOSE OF DISRUPTING THE ALLIED MERCHANT SEA LANES. SEVEN RAIDERS HAD AN IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCE AND FOR THIS TASK THEY NEEDED TO BE ASSISTED AND REPLENISHED WITH FUEL, TORPEDOES VICTUALS AND TOOLS.

SHIPS SUNK WITH PLANES IN THEIR DECKS

THE SOUTH ATLANTIC SHIPPING LANES WERE FAR FROM BEING SAFE. DURING THE WAR 27 MERCHANTS FROM ALLIED COUNTRIES WERE CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF SOUTH ATLANTIC WHEN SAILING IN CONVOYS OR INDEPENDENTLY. THEY WERE LADDEN WITH PLANES AND OTHER VITAL WAR SUPPLIES TO THE FRONTS IN AFRICA AND PACIFIC.
