At 01.43 hours on 2 Dec 1942 the unescorted City of Bath (Master Thomas Victor Birkett) was torpedoed and sunk by U-508 northwest of Georgetown, British Guiana. Three crew members were lost. The master and 27 survivors landed at Palo Seco, Trinidad on 5 December. 52 survivors were picked up on 3 December by the British steam merchant City of Dunkirk and landed at Trinidad.
