At 20.20 hours on 17 Dec, 1943, the unescorted Kingswood (Master Frederick H. Parmee) was hit by one of two torpedoes fired by U-515 southwest of Kotonu, Dahomey in the Bight of Benin. The ship was sunk by a coup de grâce at 20.28 hours. The master, 40 crew members and seven gunners landed 10 miles west of Dahomey on 19 December.
