RFA Fortol served in south Atlantic from April 1942 to August 1943 and took active role in several convoys.
In 26/08/42 British Merchant Beechwood was sunk by U - 130 in position 05º 30’ N 14º 04’ W. 136 crew members, five gunners and one stowaway were picked up by the RFA Fortol and landed at Freetown.
