In the south Atlantic HMS Faulknor rescued four survivors from Merchant British Premier sunk 24/Dec/40 by U-65 in pos. 06º 20’N 13º 20’W. Survivors were fished out on 3 February off the west coast of Africa after 41 days in an open boat (25 days without food) and landed at Freetown.
From August to October 1940 Faulknor was detached to support the Free French landings at Dakar in Operation Menace, supporting operations off West Africa before returning to Force H at Gibraltar. In June 1941 she participated in the sinking of U-138 and in the interception of the German supply ship SS Alstertor
