From mid 1942 until the end of the war, Cape Warwick remained attached to the south Atlantic Force at Simonstown. On 02/Apr/43 Cape Warwick rescued the master, 124 crew members, four gunners and 196 passengers from the british Merchant City of Baroda torpedoed when in convoy NC 9 by U 509 on pos 26º 56’S 15º 21’E. After an ordeal of 4 days, living on a miserable rationing, They landed in Capetown.
