Once recognized the state of belligerence between Brazil and the Axis countries, the Torpedo boat Parahyba remained as part of defense of access to the harbor of Rio de Janeiro (RJ) until January 23, 1943, when the she was decommissioned following a hull inspection that considered the ship not seaworthy..
