WILLIAM P. DUKESHIRE OF DANIELSON WAS THE CHIEF OFFICER ON THE LIBERTY SHIP, S.S. SAMUEL JORDAN KIRKWOOD, WHICH WAS MAKING ITS WAY WESTWARD ACROSS THE ATLANTIC ON MAY 7, 1943, AFTER DELIVERING MORE THAN 10,000 TONS OF FUEL FOR TANKS IN NORTH AFRICA, WHEN THEY WERE ATTACKED BY A GERMAN SUBMARINE.
