At 00.14 hours on 31 Oct, 1942, the unescorted Marylyn (Master Thomas Collier Townsend) was torpedoed and sunk by U-174 about 450 miles west-northwest of St.Paul Rocks. Ten crew members and five gunners were lost. The master and six survivors were picked up by the British merchant Pundit and landed at Trinidad. The chief officer and 19 survivors were rescued on 10 November by the British merchant Ettrickbank and landed at Port of Spain, Trinidad.
