At 23.37 hours on the unescorted Hamla (Master William Ashley Shute, OBE) was struck by two torpedoes from U-506 about 200 miles south-southwest of Freetown. Würdemann observed how the vessel disappeared immediately after being hit under the bridge and the aft mast. The master, 37 crew members and four gunners were lost.
