At 02.17 hours on 28 Nov, 1942, the unescorted Empire Cromwell (Master Philip Dent) was torpedoed and sunk by U-508 about 160 miles southeast of Galeota Point, Trinidad. The master, 20 crew members and three gunners were lost. 19 crew members and six gunners were picked up two days later by British MTB´s and landed at Port of Spain, Trinidad.
