At 14.29 hours on 16 Nov 1940 the unarmed Fabian (Master Montague Hocking), dispersed from convoy OB-234, was hit in the foreship by one torpedo from U-65 about 350 miles south-southwest of Freetown. At 15.54 hours, the U-boat surfaced and sank the ship with five of eight rounds from the deck gun. The Germans then questioned the survivors, treated two injured men and provided food and water.
