On 12th December 1942, HMS Freesia (under Lt. R.A. Cherry, RNR) helped to pick up 44 survivors when the British merchant Empire Gull was torpedoed and sunk west of Maputo, Portuguese East Africa.

In her last voyage, the Freesia came towed from London by the British steamer Larkslock, another class corvette also Flower (originally named HMS Lavender K60). His fate, after calling at Gibraltar, was the Port of Shanghai, China. On Wednesday, April 2, 1947, in the midst of a storm, the Larkslock lost his trailer and could not retrieve the rope, so he had to leave the ending stranding Freesia beachfront Roiba Pena in Covas, a quarter of a mile south of Cabo Prior. The Freesia remained stranded until the fall, when it was finally scrapped.
