The Commandant Detroyat was a Built French Lobelia Class corvette of 925 tons displacement launched in 1941 as HMS Coriander. Cmt Detroyat served at Freetown under British Royal Navy.  During her service in the south Atlantic, on 9/Jul/43 FFL Detroyat along with Merchant Calabar, rescued the master, 129 crew members, 12 gunners and 97 passengers from British MoWT De La Salle sunk by U-508 some 60 miles southwest of Lagos. De La Salle was loaded with 2103 tons of general and government cargo. In the same action FFL Detroyat rescued the master, 44 crew members, eight gunners and 23 Krooboys from British merchant Manchester Citizen sailing on ballast and landed them at Lagos.

Convoy S.L. 104 Freetown to United Kingdom (27 ships) sailed from Freetown, escorted by H.M.S. WILD SWAN, H.M.S. VIOLET, H.M.S. SNOWDROP, H.M.S. BERGAMOT, and F.N.F.L. COMMANDANT DETROYAT.


Monday, 6th April 42

Convoy W.S. 17 United Kingdom to Middle East to India ("Winston's Specials") (29 ships), including ADAMANT, arrived at Freetown escorted by SHROPSHIRE, ALCANTARA, GROVE, WILD SWAN, ALDENHAM, LOOKOUT, KEREN, KARANJA, HYDRANGEA, and COMMANDANT DETROYAT. Also, MALAYA and HERMIONE, escorted by Captain (D) 19th Destroyer Flotilla in LAFOREY, DUNCAN, LIGHTNING, ACTIVE, and ANTHONY.


Saturday, 11th April 42

Convoy W.S. 17 B (18 ships), including ADAMANT sailed, escorted by SHROPSHIRE, WILD SWAN, CROOME, HYDRANGEA, EXMOOR, COMMANDANT DROGOU and COMMANDANT DETROIAT.
