Above, a rare picture from Recife harbor with Brazilian ships Cananeia, Camocim and Camaqua sided by two merchants. These vessels were sent to Natal in 1941 operating as minelayers. Late in September 1942 they returned to the Brazilian arsenal at Rio de Janeiro for conversion into Anti Submarine Corvettes.



German ship Westfalia can be seen moored at Recife. One Dornier Wal is seen on catapult. The same set a world record when flew 8,392 km from southeast of English port of Dartmouth to Caravelas, Brazil in 43Hs on 29 March 1938.

In the picture above, the first interventions made by the US Navy by erecting one large infrastructure to convert Camp Ingram or Base Fox as the harbor was denominated into the most important Naval Headquarters with roughly 150 ships of 35 types.
