10)SALVADOR AFB

At Salvador, Bahia the Força Aerea Brasileira FAB, stationed 18 aircraft. They formed the 2º Grupo de Bombardeio Medio (Second Medium Bombing Group). The group used the famous and update A 28 Hudsons and PV 2 Harpoons. Warhawks P 40 and North American NA 72, despite their limited range, bomb payload and lack of adequate ASW equipment, the braveness of their young unseasoned crews was recognized for their superiors.

The BASV - Salvador Air Base, was established in 5 november 1942. Initially, the base did not have any infrastructure, so that used for a short time the facilities, including the runway and aircraft of the Aero Club of Salvador. Gradually they arrived the first North American NA-44, as well as the U.S. patrols with the Lockheed PV-1 Ventura and Martin PBM-3 Mariner from US VP Squadrons.
